We’re celebrating Lyrical Host’s sixth birthday! Over the years we’ve published nearly two hundred posts on everything from affiliate marketing to search engine optimization.

Today we’re looking back at the highlights – the most popular posts we’ve published in terms of shares, views, or references.

Let’s get started!

01. Where to find culturally diverse stock photos

We created this post at a time when it was difficult to find stock photos of people of color on the web. It involved trawling the web for hours to curate genuine sources of authentic stock photos, with as many small independent websites as possible. The result was a happily long list of different websites featuring downloadable stock photos of people all over the world, from South America to Africa to Asia.

We went on to extend this post into a series, which also includes the best free and paid websites to download disability stock photos and LGBTQ+ stock photos.

02. Optimizing images for better website speed

This is a post our support team references all the time, and it’s also featured in our Speed Boost course. Huge images are one of the most common reasons bloggers see slower site speeds, especially when uploading from mobile.

This post takes you through resizing and optimizing images without losing obvious quality before uploading to your website. Although there are a lot of great optimization plugins out there, they’ll only reduce the file size of your image by so much, especially if your image’s dimensions are the original huge ones.

03. SEO for bloggers and digital businesses

Search engine optimization remains one of the best free ways to get traffic to your website. But knowing where to start and what tasks to concentrate on as a one-person website owner is difficult, especially with so much conflicting information out there.

We created an in-depth blog post to help bloggers and digital business owners get started with SEO, designed to cut through the confusion and explain what’s important. People looking to get to grips with step by step guides can also take a look at the Navigating Keyword Research ebook and Navigating SEO course.

04. The best free pretty WordPress themes

WordPress has tens of thousands of free and paid themes you can install, so figuring out which one is right for you can be overwhelming. To help people narrow it down, we put together a list of themes that are popular with our customers, and update it every so often with new and different themes.

Following on from its success, we also curated lists of the best free magazine themes, WooCommerce themes, bold and bright themes, and minimalist themes.

05. Done-for-you sets of Instagram hashtags

This post was the most popular on our blog for a long time, and while Instagram hashtags aren’t as big as they used to be, it still gets a lot of views. The sets of hashtags are divided into categories to make it easy to copy and paste a relevant collection for your posts.

06. How to sensitively address serious events

The last entry in the list is probably the least predictable. One of the reasons this post is so popular is because there isn’t much help or information about it out there, especially for solo website owners and content creators.

With world events escalating and so much going on at any given time, it can be really hard to know what to say and when to say it. This post looks at when it’s appropriate to address a sensitive event with your audience and how to authentically find the words, with advice that can be applied to events as far-ranging as human rights issues and natural disasters.
